KEY FEATURES

The CARMA systems is the first stage of developing an autonomous monitoring systems for the nuclear industry. Primarily design to continuously inspect a map the ground for any radioactive contamination, either fixed or migrating sources.

 

The platform has been build using off-the-shelf- components to enable a quick and robust proof-of-concept. The on-board 2D mapping uses the ROS architecture, in combination with a 360° LIDAR and industrial standard radiometric sensors (Thermo Fisher Scientific). By using these sensors the industrial end user can be confidant in the radiometric maps that CARMA will publish after every sweep.

After developing a low cost 3D printed ROV called the AVEXIS, I am now working iin partnership with Sellafield and NNL to develop autonomous robotic solutions for problems within a nuclear environment. Using complex, robust, high resolution positional algorithms, sensors and acoustic communication system, in order to relay the current positions of each agent, to a visualized overview interface. Obtianed his Masters degree from Plymouth University in 2011 and then spent 2 1/2 years as a robotic research assistane developing Plymouth's robot football team.
