The aim of the project is to optimize the remote cutting rigs used for the decommissioning of nuclear waste in several ways. The first optimization is through measurement of laser cut depth online and in real time. Currently, research on this is centered on reflected energy from an active cut of a 1KW CO2 cutting laser, and pico second timing though capacitor charging and or the constant propagation delay of silicon semiconductors.
